We're all in this together

We're in this business to help other businesses grow and move forward.  It's as simple as that.  We're driven by the philosophy that if we help businesses solve their IT and security issues, they can become more profitable and successful, then we will inherently grow along with them.  There is no catch, no gimmick, just experience and best practices that we've honed over the years to make our services work for YOUR business needs.

From the desk of Zac Abdulkadir, CEO of Netready

Hello, my name is Zac Abdulkadir, CEO of Netready. As a business owner in Los Angeles for more than 20 years, I have seen a lot of things change especially when it comes to technology. With a data breach in the headlines every day, more and more organizations are asking me about security and what they need to do to protect themselves.

When it comes to security, it used to be just install a Firewall and add some Anti-Virus and your network is secure. Not anymore, with the monetization of security attacks and data breaches along with the rise of cryptocurrency, there is a lot of money at stake.

  • It was reported in 2017 that over $300 Million dollars was paid to Ransomware attackers.
  • On average, small companies lost over $100,000 per ransomware incident due to downtime. For one in six organization, these attackers caused 25 hours or more of downtime.
  • Almost a quarter of small and medium sized businesses (with less than 1,000 employees) that experienced a ransomware attack in the last year had to stop business operations immediately.

Being in the IT / Security industry for over 20 years, I get asked to speak to groups and at conferences. At a recent Financial services conference, I was asked to talk about network security. After my talk, one of the attendees pulled me aside and asked me: "How do I know if attackers are already in my network?"

At Netready we work with several advanced tools and services. We strongly promote the NIST Framework of Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover. One tool we use that was previously only available to large enterprises is SIEM (System Incident and Event Monitoring).

One analogy I like to use for SIEM, is the home alarm. If you turn it on and someone enters your home it goes off and alerts you as well as the authorities that someone has entered your home and usually within 15 minutes or so, police at your home to investigate.

The latest statistic shows intruders are in your network 200+ days before being discovered. Could you imagine not having an alarm and finding out that someone has been living in your guest bedroom for the last 6 months. Eating your food, watching TV, using your internet for malicious activities, and going through your most personal effects while you’re at work.

Think of a SIEM as your home alarm. It runs 24x7 and ingests data from Firewalls, Endpoint Software, Office 365, Active Directory Servers, and other data sources to correlate threats and changes in behavior.

One example, let’s say Tom works in the Los Angeles office and normally logs in at 9am and off at 5pm, Monday through Friday. On Sunday evening at 10pm, a login attempt is made originating from China. A SIEM based system can detect this type of abnormal behavior and block the login attempt from outside of the country and sends us an alert.

I love being an advocate for security and speaking to CEO’s, CFO’S, COO’S, Board of Directors, and Business owners on what they can do to protect their organizations. We have worked with some great companies like: Herbalife, Henkel, Warner Bros, and Wyndham Hotels and would like to work with you.

If your organization needs to review or update its security roadmap, please contact me personally.

Have a fantastic day,
